Sun, Sand, and Surfing

The other day I took an actual surfing lesson. It was AWESOME!!! i actually got up on my surfboard and was actually surfing! yayyyy!! the surf coach said I did really well considering I've never surfed before. She also said that I had a really good ability to read the waves, which is a skill not many people have :) So, maybe surfing is my true calling in life!

The board I used for my lesson was called a Mini Malibu. It is bigger than the one I'm borrowing, and the tip is rounded instead of pointy. It makes it easier to surf on. So my challenge is to try to surf on the shorter board i am borrowing! I wish i could take pictures of myself surfing for you!

Here is the beach.

Here is me, on the beach :)

Here is the freaky sand! It's magnetic or something! Like those little toys with the heads of a guy and you move around his hair! I wonder what it is.

Umm...this is a new pair of shoes I bought a while ago...but still haven't worn. So i wore them around the house the other night hehe. They're pretty comfy.

Yesterday, it was rainy out....so I might have done a little shopping. I went to a surf shop and got some surfer clothes hehe. Here is my new hoodie. A lot of people are into the lots of pattern/surfer/rider/punk look around here.

And here is a new t-shirt and bathing suit :) (don't worry, there were sales!). That being said...i think i need to find a job hehe.

And for those who want it, here is the recipe for the lemon cake that everyone needs to try to make!! And, if you don't have self rising flour, just add a teaspoon of baking powder to 1 cup of regular flour, and presto - self rising flour!

Running the farm is going well. No real problems :) The cows seem happy and I can get my morning chores done in a little over and hour! woohoo! While J&J are away, they've asked me to answer their phone for them....hehe it's funny because I think i really throw people off when i answer it. They're totally not expecting a young girl with an American accent.

So there are some things that I don't get:

-there are some weird driving rules. For instance...if i am driving along the road and want to take a right hand turn, and the person driving the opposite direction from you is trying to take a left (so you're both trying to go down the same road)....the person trying to take the left has to yield to you! It's so weird...it usually takes me a couple of minutes to realize what's going on and that the person is waiting for me to turn first haha. (or to put it in US driving turns....it's like trying to take a left and the person going the opposite direction from you, who is trying to turn down the same road as you yields to you). Here is a little diagram to help you out. The red car has to yield to the brown car (me).

-A lot of houses here have the toilet in a separate room from the rest of the bathroom! it's just like a little room with a toilet in it...then the sink and everything else is in a different room next door. I can't tell if I like it....the first time, I was so confused....but i guess it's convenient if someone is taking a shower and you need to use the toilet.....

Well...time to go feed the animals! I'm hopefully going for another surf this afternoon! I miss everyone!

thanks for the diagram! :) aaaandd yay for surfing!! im jealous!!! i love the separate bathroom idea. when i was in Europe, even restaurants had a girls room and boys room with just toilets, then outside the bathrooms was a combined, public sink area. it was great.

Science with Pam the driving there like the sand is a little weird. Speaking of the sand it looks as though it would be dirty, is it?? Love ya surfer dude

Hello Pam,

Your swimsuit looked like a smiley face the way it was laid out.

All your time spent as a mapping annalist paid off. I could recognize “Mr. Hanky” right off in the diagram.

That would be neat if you could get some pictures of you surfing.
Your coach seems to have confidence in you as well. I’m not surprised at all.
Also, is it fact or opinion that bigger’s better than small and pointy?
