The Day Pam Got Lost

So today Jenny offered to drop be off to go for a walk along the beach while she went and visited Jon's step dad who is 94! So I said to myself..."sure! it's better than sitting around all day." So off I went for a quick little walk along the beach...it was only supposed to take about 15-20 min.

Jenny said all I had to do was follow the trail until you hit the beach...and then turn right and go to the Belle Block Beach, there are signs that mark the trail...I will know when I get there because I see houses. Ok...sounds easy right? I thought so...here is what it looked like when I first started off...cow fields.

I walk down and doesn't it look like the trail goes off to the left/straight? So, that's where I started walking! Surely this trail must go right down to the beach...I wonder where those trail markers are!

It was very very windy by the water as you can see in this pic...and it wasn't too cold, I was just wearing the shell to my winter coat because I was worried about getting rained on (it was rainy all morning...and it helped block the wind).

Oh look - there I am again walking between cow paddocks thinking it was going to lead me to the beach!

Here is a pic I took playing around with some settings on my camera...I thought I had time to kill.

Now that I've been walking around for a while and am not really any closer to the beach...which way do I go??

I spotted a cool wild flower while wondering around.

Eventually...I decided to cut across a cow field to get to the beach since the path I was on obviously wasn't leading me to the there...Here is a cool flower I found when I got closer to the beach and climbed over a fence...

Yay! I eventually made it to the beach...but uh oh! The tide is coming in and the sand portion of the beach is covered in water...looks like I'll be scrambling over some rocks!

Here is me on the beach...I'm still having a good time, yet a little worried I will travel along the rocks forever...it was really hard walking on them! It is way past the 15min mark.

Hmm...that looks like a really far way to walk...I eventually walked some ways past that big log down to that patch of trees in the distance...always hoping I'd find the "houses" which marked the Belle Block beach...

Look! the first two shells i found :)

Once I got way down the beach...I probably walked for about a 1/2 hour along those rocks...I said, ok...this is obviously not where I am supposed to be so I decided to hike back up to the cow fields...When I made it off the rocks, I started walking threw this really squishy grass stuff..."this is weird" I thought to myself, as I felt myself slowly sinking with every step. I was in a marsh...great...my feet are covered in mud as I look down...but hey - my brand new hiking boot looks weird - one of the seams is ripping on the right boot!!

At this point, I was not a happy camper. I noticed a patch of pine trees that I had passed when I first started on my journey so I headed for those...crossed some more fences and cow fields... and I come to a sign that says "Belle Block Beach 15" and a sign pointing back in the direction I just came from...and there was also a nicely marked trail...which is where I was supposed to start walking in the first place...awesome Pam...
Eventually made it back to where I started from (see the pines in the background?). I never did make it to the Belle Block beach today...but all in all, it was a nice walk....now I just need to figure out how to get my boots fixed/contact Keen to see if I can get new ones! Jenny and I left the house around 1:30/1:45...we didn't make it back until around 3:45! And that is the story of the Day Pam Got Lost.

I also made nachos for dinner (also known as tea) tonight...like the layery kind you put in the oven...they were good! No left overs:)
